Recommended: Uniqueness in Stargirl storyline
She decided to keep the nickname for the rest of her
She showed that she was very different and unique. She also seemed very different from Mr. Hibler when she was teaching the children: “Without glancing down at the book, she began to talk about the movement of souls in Egyptian religion” (Page 174). Instead of reading out of a boring book like Mr. Hibler,
She enjoys getting a lot of attention, and flirts with many men, some who were even married. But she also has a way different characteristic that shows she is hard working, and a strong woman who will stand up for herself, and her family. I think there are several people like that in our own society. People who might act one way for some people, and a completely different way for other people. Celebrities are a good example of this.
Hillari doesn’t like how Stargirl seems to be taking over the whole school because she wants it to be her school, not Stargirl’s
I thought Stargirl was acting weird the other day like she was upset. I was very surprised because I have never seen her upset. I didn’t talk to her though because the whole school has been shunning her and I didn’t want to stand out. Yesterday, I saw her and she was wearing normal clothes like everyone else. She didn’t have her ukulele or her sunflower canvas bag she always carried around.
Noah Dolieslager Period 3 Advanced English Stargirl Thesis In Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl, Stargirl is a homeschooled girl that starts going to a public high school for the first time. At Mica Area High School, all the students are the same. When Stargirl arrives, she is very different compared to the students. After she starts doing weird things, the students start to not like her.
I also know that she is different because in the text it said, “Before I turned 12, I’D been arrested.” This shows that she is different because It is really rare for a person to get arrested younger than 12 years old. Lastly, I know that she is different because in the text it says, “ I was raised in the gangs. ”This shows that she is different because everyone that she knew was born in a gang and she wanted out, she did not want to be in the gang. She got beaten up by a gang and she could have been dead.
The novel Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli shows how being yourself can be good for you, but not always for the people around you. John F. Kennedy’s famous quote, “Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth,” relates to the novel, since it relates to the theme. Stargirl is a prime example of this quote. She was shunned by the student body for not conforming to the MAHS norms and being forced to act differently to be the same as everyone else to blend in with others. The first example of the theme in this novel is that Stargirl dresses differently than the people around her.
A word that best describes her is a bewildering. The reason for this is that she a woman who is odd, a women who don’t know how to cook, a woman who is crazy and loud, a woman who like to do what she wants and makes problems with everyone. In the story, Sandra/ Sam says, “ I turned around, ready to shout “Why cant you be like everyone else! (p.g.98)”. This quote illustrates Sandra’s is not like everyone else, she is a odd woman, she is different than the other women.
People know that Stargirl is different, Stargirl teaches me that being myself is perfect. She wears different clothes, she meditates, she does what makes her content and from my knowledge teenagers don’t usually do those things. In a way I am a Stargirl, I don’t do all the things that Stargirl does, because I am different in my own way. When Stargirl came into the cafeteria, she was different and stood out.
“ She called me Ashleigh - a name she didn’t even like - and never promised me anything.” ( Pfeffer 1) Ashleigh’s mom could of gave her a nickname too if she didn’t like the name Ashleigh. Comparing to her dad who calls her Ashes and promises her the stars for a necklace. They might of not came true, but at least it was something. “I’ll try to figure out why my mom ever married him.”
Leo didn't like Stargirl being herself because she was so different from everyone and they judged her for
Stargirl was unique, she sang happy birthday to everyone, danced in the rain, cheered for every team, even if we were losing, and kept a rat named Cinnamon on her canvas bag with a tacky sunflower. Some were in awe and didn't know what to do about her, some enjoyed being awake and expressed themselves by dying their hair, wearing funky clothes, and filling the bleachers at sporting
Another characteristic from the young adult fiction gene that is shared with my novel is that the main character does not have aid from parents but from another friend, relative, or mentor. The mentor that aids Leo in Stargirl is A.H. (Archibald Hapwood) Brubarker or as he is more commonly referred to in the book as Archie. He aids Leo into trying to figure things out for himself and gives more aloof explanations when Leo questions Stargirl’s past. Archie tries to comfort Leo and gives him the best advice that he can without telling Leo how to exactly fix things. For example, when Leo questions who Stargirl is he explains her the best way he can “She is us more than we are us.
And then she said what! You are different because you are you you are not like them and that is a good
