1.0 Types of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
There are several CSR initiatives that a large retail company, such as JB Hi-Fi (ASX: JBH), should adhere to. The following have been identified as most relevant to the firm.

1. Environmental influence; considers JBH’s ability to operate whilst ensuring long-term sustainability within surrounding ecosystems. For example, disclosing methods involved in minimising energy usage within JBH retail outlets.

2. Human resources; considers the entity’s actions in safeguarding the wellbeing of employees within the company. This could include a statement on the ability of JBH to eradicate discrimination of any groups within the workplace.

Page 14 discloses JBH’s heavy involvement in the preservation of surrounding environments. Page 8 outlines commitment to employee dignity, rights and freedoms within a safe working environment. Finally, Page 15 summarises each community outreach program JBH involves itself in.

The company also disclosed several other CSR initiatives which have been outlined below;

1. ‘Helping Hands’ (Page 15); JBH’s workplace giving program launched in 2008 where employees are able to donate to charities, and JBH provides an equal donation in return. The initiative has since raised $9.1M, indicating a great level of commitment to this venture.

2. Gender diversity (Page 9); the firm engages in regular revision of employee pay to eradicate any gender-based wage gaps that may exist, alongside a series of objectives regarding the percentage of women in the workplace increasing over the next several years; yet again demonstrating great dedication to this initiative.

3. Sustainability (Page 14); JBH also discloses the fact that it annually reports to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an international not-for-profit designed to report on corporation’s environmental activity.
