James Eagan Holmes was born on December 13, 1987. On July 20, 2012, James was murdered 12 people, and injured 70 people in the 2012 Aurora shooting. The shooting took place at a Century movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado. Mr. Holmes’s family had history with mental disorders like schizoaffective disorder, psychotic disorder, etc. James was very socially awkward, he also has thoughts of wishing people dead. Before his massacre, James met with at least three mental health experts at the University of Colorado. The three different psychiatrists had slightly different diagnosis. All were purchased on different occasions, and different stores. Once James went into the movie theatre, he exited the facility through an exit door left it open, and then he returned with his weapons. Then he set off gas and smoke canisters, and opened fire. The police later found him next to his car, and arrested him. He did not resist arrest. He also had explosives in his apartment. Mr. Holmes was charged with 24 counts of first-degree murder, and 116 counts of attempted murder, possession of explosive device, and inciting violence. Holmes’s attorney defense was that James was mentally ill. Throughout the trial prosecutors wanted to seek the death penalty. The defense wanted to plead not guilty by reason of insanity. He would later be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of
