Representative Kevin McCarthy is one of fifteen Republican members in Congress in the state of California, which is highly outnumbered by thirty-eight democrats. After four years of getting reelected as the representative for the 22nd district in California, redistricting retitled it the 23rd district. The newly numbered district became more compact, losing the central coast while adding a chunk of Tulare County. This did not change the fact that McCarthy’s district was still heavily Republican. The redistricting of 2012 in California showcased a new way to redistrict as the citizens of California chose the district lines, providing one of the most competitive elections in the country.
With 3/10 of its population born outside of the United States, California is a very diverse community. With high tax burdens and union membership, and low gun ownership, it is also one of the most progressive states. In a poll taken in early February, Feinstein was leading de Leon 46% to 17%, largely due to her advantage in name recognition and fundraising. That margin has already begun to close with Feinstein now leading 42% to 16%. While de Leon is unlikely to catch Feinstein before the primary in June, in a two-person race in the general election, California's voter demographics and trends should benefit de Leon.

In 1978 a group of California residents and businesses decided to pass a proposition that would reduce the overall tax rate for all local governments. The Ambivalent Legacy had California citizens and legislatures took a vote which lead to the passing of Proposition 13. Proposition 13 increased all states and local tax it also reduced property tax rates on homes, businesses and farms by 57% this was a great impact on not only California but as well as the United States. California passing proposition 13 socially impacted America by being named the “People’s initiative to limit property taxation”. It was called this because proposition 13 was an Amendment of the constitution of California.
California is probably going to decide the Democratic nominee. If Hillary lose California big you can expect a contested convention to happen on the Democratic side. Hillary won 't have enough pledge delegate once the primaries are over. This would be a good thing for Trump it give him the time and energy he needs to come up with a ground game. I hope that Trump will use the convention as a way to recruit Bernie Sander support to our side.
California, the petri dish of global political activity. From its very beginning, Southern California has been a frontrunner in political thought and activism. Major political organizations have either started in California or at the very minimum have local political branch. But as Pulido points out “people cannot fully participate in social movements without undergoing a process of political awakening.” (Pulido pg 61).
In the article It’s Still a Mad, Mad California by Victor Davis Hanson, I found revealing descriptions of encounters in parts of California very surprising. Within the article, Hanson illustrates an incident where thieves struck a mailbox, taking all checks and mail and money from envelopes. Hanson states that, “Most of us in rural California go into town to mail our letters, because our rural boxes have been vandalized by gangs so frequently that it is suicidal to mail anything from home. (Many of us now have armored, bullet-proof locked boxes for incoming mail).” I find this episode very odd and unfamiliar.
In 1848, California became part of the United States. A Treaty was set into place at that time to allow the native people to become U.S. citizens. However, because the government failed to live up to the agreed terms of the Guadeloupe Hidalgo Treaty, which was signed as a peace agreement to end the war between the United States and Mexico, the native people suffered horrendously during the next several decades. The confrontation between the Anglo’s and the Indians in California was horrific and brutal to say the least.

California feels that all citizens have the right to be here regardless of their immigration status and irrespective of if they follow California’s laws or break them. The Governor Jerry Brown “took the unusual step of writing a signing message in support of SB 54. He called the legislation a balanced measure that would allow police and sheriff's agencies to continue targeting dangerous criminals, while protecting hardworking families without legal residency in the country”.
John Brown: Freedom Fighter or Terrorist In the world today there are many definitions of terrorism, but there is not one definition for terrorism because not everyone can agree on one. I believe John Brown is a freedom fighter, but the actions he attempted like at Harper's Ferry and Pottawatomie Creek is most likely to be a terrorist act. When John Brown was young he lived in a religious family. John Brown memorized the Bible and strongly believed in God.
Brown’s bold statements are an attempt to bestow his audience with a logical appeal, by providing statistical evidence regarding the foreign-born citizens in California. However, because Brown did not cite or reference any credible sources, he could not relate this statement to the exact number of illegal immigrants currently residing in California, who are not paying their taxes, the speech omits to astonish the audience. Later, Brown quotes he has “Provided health insurance to over five million Californians”, followed Martin 2 by… “Raising Minimum wage, reducing prison overcrowding and reestablished the system of crime and punishment, making California the universal leaders in the fight against climate change, passing a water bond, and establish a rainy day fund” (Gajanan 1). Although these benefits were much needed for the five million Californians, Brown is not sure how the funds for these benefits are acquired and who for sure is paying it. He omits how this issue will personally effect the taxpayers who already own health insurance.
In 1849, California was a territory of the United States, and its leaders were faced with the daunting task of drafting a state constitution that would guide its government once it was granted statehood. This led to the calling of the constitutional convention in Monterey, where delegates from across the territory came together to draft a new constitution. This essay will explore the conditions that led to the calling of the convention, examine the backgrounds of the delegates, look at the major issues at the convention and how they were resolved, and discuss the important characteristics of the government created by the 1849 convention. There were many factors present when the Monterey constitutional conference was called in 1849. California saw a population explosion as a result of the huge influx of people that followed the finding of gold there in 1848.
Governor Sam Brownback is a republican Governor that was first apart of the house of representatives, then senator from 1996 until 2011 where he was then elected the Governor of Kansas. In 2010-2011 Brownback was elected for his platform of promising Kansans to cut income taxes which in turn would create a well spring of jobs and economic growth. With this plan he tried to prove a small government or “trickle down economics” would work. Now with this there comes the question whether or not Governor Brownback is good or bad for the people and the state of Kansas. Governor Brownback should not remain the governor of Kansas because of his involvement of the economic downturn of Kansas, the considerably large amount of negative effects that have been put on the public school systems of Kansas, and the taxes and employment problems that affect the people of Kansas.
The Gold Rush supposedly inspired the largest mass movement of people in world history because of the incredibly large masses of gold being found in the West. People found thousands of dollars in gold and people of all different cultures and backgrounds moved Westwards in hopes of finding gold as well. The Gold Rush left a positive effect on American History because Americans became wealthier and more foreigners came to California which expanded diversity. To start, Americans were able to sell this gold in exchange for loads of money. One man who only had a piece of land that was four feet square “got thirty pounds of gold in less than a month.”.
At first glance this doesn’t seem like a bad thing, everyone gets an equal say, right? Wrong! This means that Wyoming which has a population of about 500,000 voters will have an the exact same say in presidency as California which has a population of 35 million voters. Essentially, highly populated states will find that their individual votes count proportionality less.
