An image of something is never one in the same of the actual thing. PETA is an organization that fights for the rights of animals and in 2009 this advertisement was released. This advertisement features the model Joanna Krupa, in which doing so lays out this impractical expectation to what is deemed acceptable when it comes to a woman’s physical appearance. Joanna Krupa was chosen for this ad because she is an actress, model and an animal activist. The purpose of the advertisement like all PETA advertisements was to raise awareness against animal cruelty. This advertisement got its message across by using an image of a nude lady. The first thing that captures the consumers attention when looking at this advertisement is not the dogs or the slogan, but instead the individual’s eyes gets drawn to the naked women whose displaying what is viewed to be the ‘ideal’ body type. Jhally explains that that this is done because the advertisement industry needs to capture the consumers attention and get them to feel what they want them to feel (327). Once advertisement industries get the consumers to this point they are easily capable of manipulating them to participate in what they are selling. Jhally also suggests that this form of advertising rejects reasoning and just plays on the consumers feelings, which undeniably has a more persuasive effect on viewers (327). In society when portraying religion in the media it tends to be one of those things that is off limits or if you are using it, you must approach it with caution. This advertisement uses religion in a way that disrespects it. McIntosh suggests that privilege discusses dominance because of one’s race or sex. Such dominance, whether intentional or not, is embedded in white privilege (6).
