It used to be a hassle to switch from one broadband service provider to another, however since 2015 Ofcom (also known as the Office of Communications), the government body that regulates the communications industry including broadband and mobile operators put rules in place that made it easier for consumers to switch between service providers, even when they are locked into 12 – 36 month contracts. The process of doing this is called “open –Reach” and all you need to do is instruct your current broadband provider who will take care of the regulatory requirement and actually switch you over to your new broadband provider. John Lewis comes with a century worth of retail experience but to gain traction in the broadband and mobile telecommunications world they partnered with PlusNet and BT who are responsible for all technical aspects. John Lewis offered a standard unlimited broadband with all their packages; this is something that not all service providers can include in their packages. John Lewis appeals to people who are not tech savvy, who might choose a brand for its reputation more. Most people are familiar with the brand which is why the broadband services that the company offers have drawn so many customers. If we only had to grade companies by virtue of their customer service then John Lewis will continue to top the list.
