The Greatest leader of Early Western Civilization
Perhaps two of the greatest and most renowned rulers of early western civilization is Gilgamesh the Ruler of the city state of Uruk and Julius Caesar who was the first ruler of the Roman Empire. Gilgamesh was the ruler of the Sumerian city-state of Uruk Around 2700 B.C.E , likewise Julius Caesar was a leader of ancient Rome during the late republican period. Between the two Julius Caesar was a better ruler and would resonate more with people of modern day society than Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh was a great ruler however it wasn't until late into his rule that he grew out of being a childish vain man and into a great leader. After Caesar had won the civil war violence broke out amongst Rome’s factions, to stop this violence Caesar decided to become the sole leader of rome: the only way he believed he could end the madness. By doing this Caesar involuntarily ended the old traditions of the Roman republic and started the Roman empire which would last for centuries. By becoming the sole ruler of Rome it gave Caesar more power and allowed him to accomplish more things. “As sole rule, Caesar imposed a moderate cancellation of debts; a cap on the number of people eligible for subsidized grain; a large program of public works, including public libraries; colonies for his veterans in italy and abroad; plans to to rebuild corinth and carthage as commercial centers; and citizenship for more non-Romans” (Hunt,page 163). Because of how much success Caesar had as a leader and how great his capability was that he had for completing tasks and improving the life of his people he would resonate more by the people of modern day than Gilgamesh.
Many people argue that Gilgamesh was a better leader than Caesar. They argue that he was a better leader than him because he was a fierce warrior and ambitious builder who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty
