What Makes an Effective Leader? There are leaders all around you and you probably did not even know it. A leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. This could be parents, teachers, or the president of a country.
A leader is someone you can look up to with admiration. A proper leader does not mislead the people that stand with them. They are open, honest, and responsible. They don’t hide their failures. They own up to their mistakes because that’s what leaders do.
Leadership is being bold enough to provide a vision, and humble enough to recognize achieving it will take the efforts of many people. It means being an example, a contributor, and a motivator. Leadership is inspiring, and empowering a team to work towards a common goal. Leadership is understanding people's talents, and temperaments and creating an environment to let others soar to their highest potential. Through out my high school career leadership has been a big part of my life.
In “Moving On” Diane Cook creates an emotional wall in order to get through a loss. The female protagonist in the story creates a barrier that helps other people move on with their lives. In this situation the female loses her husband and is sent to an institution to be reprogrammed. When I lost both of my family pets at different times, my reaction to both of them was unalike any other. When someone loses an important person in their life they wind up with something or someone different to fill the void.
Leadership Personally, I understand that successful leaders acknowledge the fact that individuals, corporations, and even countries hold undiscovered talents and untapped potentials. This group of people pursues to unleash the full capabilities of their members to accomplish the highest results and reach greater heights (Northouse, 2017). Apparently, just because one is a leader, it doesn’t imply that every person wants to follow them. In fact, any person can take the role of leadership, but it doesn’t mean they earn respect, trust, and confidence of the followers. However, the positive thing is that almost every person can possess the critical skills to become a trustworthy and respected leader and those skills can continue to be developed and practiced every single day.

While illustrating this manner, a leader must also act as a motivator and disciplinarian, especially when leading teachers. In conclusion, leadership is the ability to retain the confidence of others. By doing so, a leader would be able to follow their own willingness to take their suggestions on the matter of any given situation. 1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
There are many different views and perceptions on leadership and what it exactly means. This is because there are many different types of leaders and many different views on them. But the basic meaning of leadership is an individual who can select the right group of followers and influence them through their distinct gifts, abilities, skills and knowledge. A leader focuses on the follower and puts out a roadmap to the overall mission and vision; hereby the follower is influenced to willingly and enthusiastically in achieving the mission and vision. The leader achieves this influence by humbly delivering a visionary perception of the future in clear terms that resonates with the follower in terms of their believes and values.
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
This paper is going to encompass different leadership theories and their relevance to my own personal personality and method of leadership. There will be information on the advantages and disadvantages of the leadership theories and information on each including examples. My leadership philosophy is one driven by emotion. I want to be the leader that makes people feel. I want them to feel as though we are all part of a family and that they are cared about.
