One of the most important recommendations of the institute of medicine (IOM) 2011 to increase the number nurses with a Bachelor Science of Nursing (BSN) degree from 50% to 80% by 2020 (IOM, 2011).
While watching the movie Remember the Titans, one cannot help but notice many different leadership styles. There are examples of servant leadership and non-examples of servant leadership. Some of the different coach's techniques were effective, yet others were ineffective. This paper will take a close look at the assorted styles of leadership found throughout the film. It will also shed some light on what styles worked and which could have been more effective.
Introduction Transformational servant leadership has been used by many organizations to ensure that they become profitable and able to meet their customers and employees. I chose John F. Kennedy as my great leader because, Even though he was known to be a leader who possessed transformational style, he also possessed other leadership styles which helped describe Kennedy such as behavioral, but the servant leadership style is that which really represented John F. Kennedy. Before the start of this class, the pursuit of the triple aim within the context of a smaller health system has been somewhat elusive for me. However, this semester’s class has provided me with fresh perspectives and practical ideas on incorporating the principles of the triple aim into a smaller organization. The practice I work for has a one hundred year history of providing patient care in a community-based setting and over the course of this one hundred years, our organization has learned to flex and change with the times. The three principles of the servant-leadership are sharing the power, putting the needs of others first and helping people achieve their highest potential so that they may want to serve others. Servant and Authentic leadership have several characteristic comparisons. Both servant and authentic leadership styles are positive leadership styles. Servant and authentic leaders serve other individuals. They both believe in empowering the employees they serve. The leadership styles possess a high standard of values, displays compassion and passion for integrity to their followers.
Rama combines the utmost care for his followers and an unflinching devotion to their welfare with utmost humility and respect for his followers. This is the mark of the servant leader who is more concerned about the followers than about themselves. Servant leadership consists of seven dimensions (Liden, Wayne, Zhao, & Henderson, 2008)all of which has parallels in Rama’s leadership behavior. Emotional healing entails being sensitive to the follower’s setbacks. Rama’s handling of Bharatha’s guilt and chagrin, Sugreeva’s sense of defeat and Vibheeshana’s gut wrenching feelings of having betrayed his brother are all examples.
1) Question: If you were consulting with the HTE board of directors soon after Harold started making changes, what would you advise them regarding Harold’s leadership from a transformational perspective? Answer: Firstly, transformational leadership is a process that does exactly how it sounds, it transforms people. Through this sort of leadership, it is involved in being concerned with things such as standards, values, ethics, emotions, and long-term goals. If I were consulting with the HTE board of directors I would advise regarding Harold’s lack of awareness for those around himself and how that was making him an ineffective president.
