Kevin Cowan improved the finances and changed numerous broken relationships into strategic alliances (Vanderpyl, 2012). The four strategic steps that he used were: 1) “get in their face”; 2) “offer to serve, rather than be serve”; 3) “weed the garden”; and 4) “give the credit away” (Vanderpyl, 2012). Cowan used servant leadership to turn adversarial relationships into cordial relationships. When considering the relational aspect of the situation, Cowan wanted to figure out the best possible way to help the CHR leaders out. He simply asked “what can I do to make your life easier?” (Vanderpyl, 2012). With his genuine interest, he used their lack of health care space and financial situation as an opportunity, by offering CHR space in their SMHC
