LGBT Youth Therapist Personal Statement

It was approximately three years ago when my now guardian, Crystal Aucoin, let me stay the summer at her residence. I was born Trevor Crutchfield to my biological mother, Taressia Duke-Crutchfield. Crystal was always a family friend for as long as I could remember. She used to babysit me when my mom would have to go places or simply because I wanted to see her. Following that summer, I decided it would be best to change the environment I was in and move in with her. I believe that was the best judgement I have made to this day. Till this day, she has been an inspiration for me in my school and personal life. I remember at one point in time I almost dropped out of school. I had no motivation and my self-esteem was at an all time low. She was the reason I kept pushing even when I wanted to give up, and the reason I keep striving to be the best I can in my academic and social life. …show more content…

My goal in life is to be a LGBT youth therapist. The reason I want to specifically be a youth therapist is because I know how much I needed someone to talk to at my lowest points. I want to be there for a young person who believes that no one is there. I want to show them that they have value of some sort and let them know that they are appreciated. I hope that one day I am able to show someone who has been in the same position as I was and guide them out of that “abyss” per say, and have them have a more optimistic outlook on life. Something I look forward to and anticipate is acquiring my college diplomas and earning honor awards for exemplary work throughout my college
