Throughout, “Real Leadership: What It Takes” by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, he talks about what it takes to be a leader. He lists 10 attributions of leaders. While reading his list, I realized that I have achieved some, but others I have neglected. Those that I have neglected will need more practice because it is imperative, as a leader, to be a good role model for all of the people that you are assisting. One of the leadership qualities that I have achieved is the ability to identify mistakes. Whether it is on the field or in the classroom, I have been able to find my mistakes and learn how to fix them. For example, there was one section in Imagination, Aaron and I, were separated from the rest of the trumpet section. We had to figure out how we were going to march in front of the battery before they crossed us and we had to figure out how we would reconnect with the trumpet section. It was a very challenging task, but we managed to reconnect in time without falling over, although it took many attempts to get it right. For me, giving up on our mistakes is never the answer. As quartermaster for my Boy Scout troop, I have had to spend many weekends cleaning equipment and organizing shelves. I have had to email and call many scouts that they need to return their equipment. But, the one thing that shows me that I have achieved this was that I was confronted by an adult leader and was told that the troop storage room was in the best condition since the history of the troop. Going the extra mile is what allows us to better ourselves for the future because even if it doesn’t help you now, it will help you
