My first three years of playing softball in high school, I was a team captain and the starting pitcher. As a freshman, I wasn’t very good at creating “masterpieces” because I had a hard time imagining concrete pieces I hadn’t seen in books or online. Now that I am a senior, I have taken ceramics four times, and three of my pieces have been featured in art shows. Creating something out of nothing comes with its challenges, but the test has made me a more patient individual that is able to see the beauty within every imperfection.

The essay’s due by midnight, the waking up early every weekend to go to work, and the pressure to grow up completely this year and know exactly what am I going to do with my life have all been very overwhelming. Since I was fourteen I have volunteered at the VFW in Redmond. I have participated in banquets they have held, and have assisted in helping certain veterans with household duties. Each month, I visit four couples to help them around the house, take their dogs to the groomer, and buy groceries. I believe that although my efforts are small in my community, they are making a large impact on the lives of those who offered their lives for our country.

For the past three years I have had the opportunity to be an adapted physical education mentor for high schoolers with special needs. Being a part of this class I’ve gained first hand experience with multiple students that have been treated differently because they function at their own levels. The opportunity I have had to work with these students everyday has not only taught me more about myself, but how, despite differences we all have in this world, everyone has the right to be treated the same whether they suffer from birth defects or are of a different
