Well, it was something I always wanted to do from the time I was a child. But when I was in grade twelve deciding whether I was going to go to the university for drama, then 9/11 happened. That made me kinda put the brakes on. I wanted to do something that could affect people more--something that was more helpful. So instead of applying to drama school, I went to be a police officer instead.
Leadership is a form of art and science. There are various strings attached to this term that turn into actions and influences. One of the most influential leadership organizations are those men and women who serve the United States within military forces. Every person in this organization has some sort of leadership role that is critical and influential to the force. One of the biggest challenges that good leaders face is the encounter with another good leader.

When I raised my hand, and took my oath of service I had no idea of the journey Leadership Philosophy that laid ahead of me. Joining late in life was one transition, but the transition into the Non-Commission Officer (NCO) Corps, and a leader has been a very rewarding experience. The values that were instilled in me as a child and those that have been drilled into my make-up as an NCO are very similar. The tenants of the seven Army Values have been what I have lived by most of my life and career, however there are four out of the seven values that I hold most valuable and live out on a day to day basis.
According to the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Standing Order Two, leaders are inspired, dedicated, approachable, responsive, and connected to the needs and future of our workforce. The Encarta dictionary defines leadership as the ability to guide, direct, or influence people. My definition of leadership is a combination of these two references—leaders should be able to motivate others to accomplish a goal or mission. In order to do this, leaders need to be involved in their people’s work and personal life, and realize how to correlate their personnel’s goals with the mission’s goals. Some people require minimal leader involvement, while other people require their leader to get more personally involved to show them the way.
Army defines leadership as “influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation, while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization.” As a professional Non-Commissioned officer, proudly serving in the United State Army and within the boundary that clearly depicts vivid picture of Army Leadership. I am SGT Mostafazadeh define and develop my first Leadership Philosophy and most importantly use it in the daily bases and maintain revision and update it as I develop and learn new thing throughout my Military Carrere. The ground foundation of my Leadership philosophy is based on three core Leader Competencies include Leads, Develops and Achieves and how each one of those factor impact my organization (Army), Army human resources (senior, peers and subordinates) and
My “Leadership Philosophy” began to take shape as a follower, before ever taking on a leadership role. At the beginning of my career when I was a young Soldier, I had great expectations of what was to follow after Basic Training. Once I finished Basic as a Private First Class (PFC), I had carried out tasks with enthusiasm and desire to achieve a larger purpose.
This assignment is important and meant a great deal because I was able to revisit the courses that have developed me into the leader that I am now. I have grown significantly and learned what it takes to be an effective leader. This means a great deal to me because being a military veteran; I had a different perspective of what leadership is supposed to be. Taking this journey, I have learned that what the military teaches us as leaders works for the military, however many of the military leadership aspects do not transfer over to civilian and corporate world. I think it has been very important to see how different leadership styles and approaches are compared to what I am use to.
The Army today is composed of leaders and followers. Great leaders require abilities that will enable them to train, lead and motivate their followers. Those abilities are called conceptual abilities. What are conceptual abilities? Who do these abilities applies to?
In this module, I believe the most important concept of leadership and followership is one of the parts of the five essential qualities of effective followership called Initiative. I think it is the most important concept since it is an area I can continuously improve on by taking Initiative it will help me display my motivation, determination, perseverance, and risk-taking in my life. The way that I will apply Initiative concept in my work center is showing that I have the determination for constant improvement in my organization and Air Force. By actively building trust with my subordinates, peers, and supervisors which will display that I am reliable and accepting and providing honest feedback.
I believe that leaders in the military and leaders within business oriented organizations exhibit the same traits and qualities because leaders regardless of the situation or context share the same traits. “Trait theories of leadership considers personal qualities and characteristics that differentiate leaders from non-leaders” (Robbins 333). The trait theories of leadership basically indicate that all leaders share the same traits or characteristics. These traits apply to leaders in the military and private sector. Leaders typically have traits such has self-control, decisiveness, and responsibility.
Leadership role has been in practice for centuries but there is no exact definition to completely describe leadership. We think anyone who commands a group is a leader, but true leadership is the ability to learn from mistakes and guide people. Some of the lessons that have been most valuable to me was during my experience in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps Blazer Battalion. As a result of this experience I have learned to put the needs of others before mine without expecting anything in return.
My goal in this letter is to impart my leadership philosophy to you. I hope it will inspire action and provoke thought, regardless of your rank or position. Most of what I address is based on what I’ve seen and experienced. To the young enlisted Soldiers: you earn every bit of your respect in this organization.
Leadership in the Army is the fundamental foundation of the organization. Leaders like Officers and Non- Commission Officers implement and set the standard of leader to soldiers. These leaders ensure the Army soldiers are trained and prepare for any hardships they face. The term Leadership can be defined differently based on the organization in which the term is applied to. In the Army Leadership can be described as a "characterized by a complex mix of organizational, situational, and mission demands on a leader who applies personal qualities, abilities, and experiences to exert influence on the organization, its people, the situation, and the unfolding mission" (ADP 6-22).
Military leadership is the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Another significant aspect of emphasized by the army is charisma. Therefore, army strategy to have a great leader is to choose people with high charisma since follower are always drawn to leaders with charisma. By having a high charisma they can command the follower easily. The basic task of a leader are: achieve the mission with zero fatality.
