Leadership style
When approaching this assignment and completing the interactive graphic, (Laureate, 2011), I found it more difficult to complete than not because of the wording of the topics. They were not dead on as far as I was concerned and some I wasn’t quite sure how to answer them. Nonetheless based on the graphic I am Creative-Result Leader, which in part, say I am a problem solver that uses creative flexibility when barriers or challenges come into play.

Thus, the need to build strong, trusting professional relationships, It is essential, for me to operate from an open door policy to afford my team access to me to help work through problems, and giving advice and guidance to help work through the stress and enhance their performance (Patti, 2009).
Strength and Weakness
In essence, I am working to create an environment that is attune to the mission of the organization, inspiring self-reliance, dignity and hope evidenced by positive life changes for the clients we serve. Upper management is responsible for creating a supportive “learning and performance” arena, with clear expectations, performance feedback, and positive attitudes toward training and development. I must also ensure that my supervisors are equipped to proactively, create, support, and nurture the learning and performance environment, which is sensitive to the demands of our clients (Patti, 2009).
Overall, as the new director, who has inherited staff, I must stay mindful of my short-comings (impatience) and my expectations as it relates to competence. I know that I can only control myself and it is not my intent to be insensitive (dogmatic) and uncaring when communicating. To help me stay mindful of my facial expressions, I lean in when she is talking, to let her know that I am interested in what she is saying. I use “I” statements, to restate what I heard her say, which gives her the opportunity to hear it back and to clarify, if it is not correct. I make sure to always use the clients as the catalyst for all conversations because it helps to keep me focused on what is important and takes me and my impatience out of the equation.
Lessons Learned
I personally strive for excellence and to be the best that I can be, however, these are my personal values. I think that professionals should be held accountable for their actions or lack of action. I also believe that it is important to be fair and not make assumptions about people. With that being said, some of my actions and beliefs can be construed as hypocritical.
Setting high standards for myself does not mean that everyone has the same standard. People are who they are and how dare I expect something from them that I have not given them. I am learning to accept people for who they are and interact with them from where they are. It is unfair for me to expect something that they may not have been taught. Therefore, as a professional, who takes pride in her work, and knows the importance of skills and competency, it is my job to develop and train my team from where they
