Leadship In The Kingdom Of God Summary

It is a great book for great global leaders. Sanders points out many important qualities of great Christian leaders in his book. The author offers many good Biblical principles and perfect examples of leadship in the Kingdom of God. After reading this book, I was depressed for a while in the beginning. What Sanders looks for from a Christian leader is not common in people. In fact, I should say there are so many qualities which I miss in my leadership.
In chapter three, Sanders highlights the most prominent principle of a spiritual leader is to serve but not being served. He contrasts the secular leadership is to lord over people but spiritual leadership is to serve people (Mk 10:43-44). However, he does not explain the significance of ‘serve’ …show more content…

Most companies use discipline to govern order and self-discipline. Employees will listen to their bosses without much problem since this is the way they earn their living. In contrast to workplace, shepherding is facing two intrinsic deficits. First, church is operated mainly by volunteers. Volunteers have no obligation to their church duties and they just come and go. Church leadership has to balance discipline and love. That is why church leadership is much tougher than that in workplace. Next, church leadership is fixing human sinful nature and battling with Satan. This is the most explosive part. People are blending to sin by nature after Fall. Therefore, leadership is not only carrying out ministries in a church but shepherding, fighting with human sinful nature to advance them to God. Leaders cannot fix human sinful nature just by orders or regulations. Only the Spirit can change human nature. Likewise, leadership is battling with the dark king, Satan. It is cunning and invisible too. As a human, we have no clue of what and how Satan attacks ourselves, our ministry, and our people. This is even tougher than the one mentioned before. It is the same only the Spirit can deal with Satan. That is to say, church leaders have to work under the guidance of the invisible Spirit by prayer (p. 129) and submission to face the visible sinful men and the invisible Satan.
