I choose a company from the Marketing/PR category of the MissionStatements.com website because I assumed there would be a strong link between the mission statement and the about us section of their website. If the company if focused on promoting others, they should be able to promote themselves successfully as well.
The first company that was listed was the Lisa Ekus Public Relations Company, LLC. They had a strong mission statement which included the various aspects of the company – and the fact that they are striving to be “a leading food media resource” (MissionStatements.com). Each employee profile went over a little about the employee’s work and personal interests. I liked how our textbook (Principles of Management) also emphasized having personal and professional goals. I think the business environment has been pulling away from the bureaucratization of work, which was useful in the industrial revolution, and focusing more on personalizing our service-oriented world.
The profiles furthered the mission statement from MissionStatements.com in having a “savvy, well-seasoned team” by bringing to life each employee’s talent. With having an easily navigable and well-designed website, they have shown they can give creative solutions to the clients’ needs, which is another part of their mission. Having a team of diverse ages also helps prove they are able to navigate changing media environments, bringing a variety of expertise to help their clients succeed.
One criticism I have of their mission statement is that the goals they identified are not SMART, as defined by our textbook (Principles of Management). What does it mean to be innovative? While it sounds good in theory, we cannot measure whether or not they are succeeding there. Also, they have not defined what they see as being “leading.” Are they leading in terms of number of clients? Are they leading in terms of how much value they add to their clients’ work?
