Methods to reduce the long-term effects of cyberbullying on middle school students
CyberBullying is another type of bullying which is associated on social media through cell phones, text messages, or even emails. As technology advances, the use of cell phone usage becomes more and more popular. Using a cell phone to bullying another teen demonstrates that teens are more accessible to the cellphone rather than to a computer. Traditional bullying occurs in school where the victim of the bully is harassed by comments and negative behavior. On the other hand,cyberbullying allows the bully to become anonymous allowing to bring forth negative actions that can affect the victim of the bully. Online bullying can cause psychological problems which can have a serious effect on the victims such as suicide or self harm. Schools throughout the United States should provide their students with educational programs that provide useful information on how to handle bullying and the consequences that come along with it. According to Cyberbullying: Prevention and Intervention to Protect Our Children and Youth, “Each of these programs has the potential to be used as a stand alone intervention to help prevent cyberbullying or they can be embedded within a larger schoolwide antibullying program”. Because cyberbullying can have serious consequences, exposing students to issues that involve bullying and ways to stop it when one sees it can make a difference.
