The MLB has been criticized for years for being the only professional team sports organization in the U.S to not have a salary cap. Why do they decided that it is a good idea to not have a salary cap and is it really hurting the sport as we know it. So first of all what is a salary cap? A salary cap is what is used to put a limit on what teams can spend on their players. So why does everyone want the MLB to have a salary cap. That reason is that the other organizations feel that it allow the teams to become even that way they can have one team winning all the championships. The MLB takes into consideration reasons to have a salary cap but still see it as unnecessary to have one. The MLB will unlikely ever have a salary cap for many reasons. The first reason is that the MLBPA unlike the NFLPA, NHLPA and NBPAis able to function as a complete and productive union without a salary cap. This is why the NFL and the NBA are always having lockouts because the players, coaches and owners cannot agree on what to pay their players because it’s a necessity for the owners to make a huge profit on fans and players. The salary cap is a way for owners to put a damper on labor cost which in turn allows them to have more income. The MLB feels like organizations with a salary caps are telling their fans that a salary cap is used to keep a competitive balance between all teams. But the MLB thinks that a salary cap isn’t necessary to have competitive games or to keep the love of the game alive. Owners in other sports organizations fight for a salary cap not for the fairness of the game but for a maximum profit. The MLB and MLBPA say that most of the owners in other oganizations are in denial and that having a salary cap is actually hurting those teams and ultimately the fans and the game in
