AIU Abstract
In order for any institution to operate smoothly, it must have good and effective leaders. Different leaders use different practices to lead his employees and clients. Employees respond better to their obligations based on the skills and attitude of the leader. With that in mind, leaders should know when to be steadfast and they should know when to be flexible. This is particularly true when it comes to managing a prison. Reviewing three leadership styles; Authoritarian style, Democratic style, and the Laissez-faire style, this paper will explain the operation of each and explain the effectiveness of each whenever a crisis occurs.

Not like the Authoritarian Style, which has one leader who makes all the decisions, the Democratic Style gives consent to assistants to share their ideas. By operating in this manner, the leaders are friendlier, and this promotes better employment satisfaction along with moral improvement.
The Laissez-Faire Style, according to (Brennen, 2002) is in no way comparable to the Authoritarian style. The Laissez-Faire style is more of a freestyle model of leadership. There are no set goals for the facility, and everybody is pretty much free to operate on his/her own motivation or decision. Functioning on such style of leadership as this, leads the productivity of an organization to be low and unsuccessful.
Each model of leadership; The Authoritarian Style, the Democratic Style, and the Laissez-faire Style, has its own effect in the operation of an organization’s professionalism and growth. It depends on the type of organization, as well as the size, that determines he most effective management style.
The wardens, who work in prisons, should always get to know the cultural and the behavior of their inmates. The style of management to use in different situations should be adjusted whenever necessary, in order to suit whatever the needs are for the inmates and staff (Williams, …show more content…

Realizing that the Authoritarian style of the management gives all power to one person, it would not be wise to take away or change the status of the manager’s judgment because of an expected disturbance such as a riot. (Useem, 1995). The authority granted to the one man can authorize the center to lockdown the facility but must be able to influence other employees to cooperate completely for the safety of everyone. The lockdown will interfere with the plans of rioting.
Utilizing the Democratic Style model will allow more of a team plan and give them the opportunity to assign different staff members the chance to investigate the inmates’ plans so that the plans can be demolished before that have a chance to carry them out.
The Laissez-faire Style, as for a solution of managing a prison riots, can be suitable in the way of different employees using their creativity to investigate how, when, and where the destructive action is suppose take place. After information is gathered, the individuals can share the information they have acquired to help develop a plan or plans to eliminate the rioting process before it
