The mandated reporter training provided by the state of Arizona provides a lot of valuable information. The training provides not only social workers with information regarding reporting child abuse, but also to anyone that has any interaction with children. Much of the information provided in this training is not common knowledge to those outside of the child protection arena. I was already aware of the information provided due to my intensive training as a child protection worker. There are some differences between the rules and laws of Arizona and Mississippi. One example is that in Mississippi we did not give information to the reporter of child abuse unless they were directly involved with the case. This training listed people and occupations that are considered mandated reporters. I strongly believe that everyone person should be a mandated reporter. Some states require that anyone that knows or suspects child abuse report it. The penalty for not reporting can be stiff, as it should be. I believe that all suspected abuse should be reported regardless of who you are or what position you hold. There could be an incidence of child abuse or neglect taking place and the people that know about it are not mandated reporters and they do not report it. This could be a situation where people knew and nothing was done causing the child to lose their life or be hurt.
I was not aware that this training was available online. In the future I will be able to share this information with others to be used a resource. This is free information that is available to the public and I will encourage everyone to take advantage of the information being provided. I will also continue to advocate that anyone that knows about child abuse report it. This is a simple tool provided by the state that can bring awareness to child abuse and child abuse
