Martin Luther King Jr. Biography Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia by his Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. He was the middle child born according to the website (Biography.com) Martin was a great man. He overcame various challenges and difficulties through his life. As a child, Martin and his siblings grew up in a decent environment. Though Martin Jr.’s parents tried, they couldn’t avoid racism completely. In May, 1936 Martin got baptized, but he really didn’t care about the fact he got baptized. Martin was only 12 when his Grandmother Jennie died from a heart attack. The event affected Martin even more because he was out watching a parade against his parents’ beliefs when the heart attack occurred. Torn at the news, Martin jumped from a second story window at their house, attempting suicide. Martin’s family was deeply involved with the church and worship; Martin questioned religion and was very uncomfortable discussing it. That discomfort continued leading him against joining the ministry.
