Martin Luther King Jr. Biography Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia by his Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. He was the middle child born according to the website (Biography.com) Martin was a great man. He overcame various challenges and difficulties through his life. As a child, Martin and his siblings grew up in a decent environment. Though Martin Jr.’s parents tried, they couldn’t avoid racism completely. In May, 1936 Martin got baptized, but he really didn’t care about the fact he got baptized. Martin was only 12 when his Grandmother Jennie died from a heart attack. The event affected Martin even more because he was out watching a parade against his parents’ beliefs when the heart attack occurred. Torn at the news, Martin jumped from a second story window at their house, attempting suicide. Martin’s family was deeply involved with the church and worship; Martin questioned religion and was very uncomfortable discussing it. That discomfort continued leading him against joining the ministry. But later In Martin’s junior year, Martin took a Bible study lesson, gained his faith and began to start a career in the ministry (Martin Luther King Jr Bio.). …show more content…

But while in college, Martin ignored his father dreams by drinking beer and playing pool. He also became involved with a white woman at a point in his life and people had given him a hard time at the fact. During his last year King Jr. came under the influence of Benjamin E. Mays who raised King’s spiritual development. Mays encouraged King to view Christianity as a force for social change (Biography.com). Martin Jr. also met Coretta Scott, a singer and musician, at a school in Boston. They got married in 1953 and had four children. In 1954 King became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist
