Can you imagine being a little African American boy from Atlanta in the 1920s, with no money, and growing up to give the most famous speech ever? Martin Luther King, Jr. was that boy. He was born in 1929, and was aware of racism at an early age because of what was happening around him. He worked hard his whole life to fight for equal rights and was very successful. Martin Luther King not only overcame racism, hatred, and poverty, but is also known as the leader of the Civil Rights Movement and has gone on to inspire generations to come. Both black and white people from all over America were able to come together to support Martin Luther King, Jr’s ideas because they were so inspired by him. Being a strong leader with thousands of supporters and life changing ideas, allowed Martin Luther King, Jr. to achieve amazing things during his life. Arguably, his most successful march was when nearly 250,000 people, black and white of all different social classes, came together in Washington, D.C, to hear Dr. King speak.
