• Amish community has been in existence for 300 years. There is a major difference between the Amish and the Mennonites which portrays their identity. The Mennonites are lenient to the use of technology while the Amish are conservative and strict towards, the infant baptism, number of times for communion.
• The Amish operate on ordunung (unwritten rules and regulation) to regulate the decision taken in the community. They literally interpret the bible and live by it. They speak different language for different purposes, Most Amish speak three languages for different purposes. They speak Low German similar to Pennsylvania Dutch among themselves and in the home (Kraybill 2001). Undiluted plain German is used for their religious worship and English in communicating with outsiders (the English) coupled with the fact that English is the language used for Amish kids. They learn to read and write English language but do not know how to write Low German (Wise 2002). The Amish did not incorporate English language as their official language mainly as one of the mediums to distance and severe communication with outsiders
• They are exempted by the federal government to pay insurance fees and social security, however, the Amish pay taxes.

An argument from Mazie (2005) was that the Amish teenagers were not truly given the free decision to choose the standard of life they want. Reasons could be that the Amish youth try to avoid one of the major practice among the Amish which is SHUNNING. This occurs when an Amish chooses the English lifestyle over the Amish way of life by not passing through the ritual of baptism into the Amish
