Minorities are the Majority Major corporation market their services, merchandise, and foods according to their demographics. The number of minorities in the United States is steadily growing and one of the companies that is aiming at minorities this is world wide known, McDonald’s. McDonald’s has been the leading pack in this movement as, “a pioneer of ethnic advertising since the 1960s,” (Economist). McDonalds through the years has taken heat that their marketing is bias to race, as they attempt to appeal to minorities by adding culture and weaving values held by minorities to their commercials. Many people hold wrong ideas on African Americans for the most part, believing them to be people that cause trouble are stay in the world they were born into, which could be into a working class family. The commercial challenges that idea, showing the man working the night away. In the US in the year 2011, 1.6 million African Americans that are 25 and older have reached degrees such as masters, Ph.D., M.D. or J.D, “fifteen years earlier-in 1995-only 677,000 blacks had this level of education.” The commercial shows a young black male, working for success, also showing that it won’t come easy, it’ll have hardships that will need “Late Nights” to get all the work done. In an article by Jennifer Kurland, she claims that McDonalds makes its profit by, “targeting low-income consumers and minorities; and by picking from the poor man's pocket it grows financially.” Knowing that they base their marketing strategies off of their demographics, it is no wonder why they chose to use an African American as the main actor in this commercial. Using him in a different light, as a hard working person, and making themselves look like they are giving back as they providing a reward, they are bringing a different perspective.
