Classroom management is important for any classroom. For students with Learning disabilities (LD), classroom management is critical. Students with LD are already at risk for "not learning," pore classroom management only adds to their day to day struggles of learning. For this reason, it is imperative that teachers insure that they use organizing and planning strategies for effective classroom management. Mrs. Housand is a second grade teacher. She currently has three students that have LD’s. Through my observation and interview Mrs. Housand provided key insights on some organizing and planning strategies she uses for classroom management. The classroom environment is a crucial factor of successful teaching and learning, especially for students with LD; therefore, Mrs. Housand has created a classroom environment that is warm and inviting seating arrangements that encourages participation and discourage distractibility (Polloway, Patton, Serna, & Bailey, 2013). Her classroom arrangements provides structure, organization, and control; yet provides freedom, exploration, and choice (Polloway, Patton, Serna, & Bailey, 2013). Mrs. Housand’s students has a clear understanding of what she expects and are eager to please. She has her classroom rules and daily schedules are clearly displayed, which aides in students understanding the expectations of the classroom.
