I hope to bring diversity to all who walk on the campus. My background has shaped me into the intelligent African American woman I am today. Without growing up in the “hood”, I may have not been able to find the best career that interested me. I also would not have been able over all the challenges thrown at me. Instead I remained determined and motivated so that I was able to achieve all of the goals set before me.
The diverse campus prepares the student for the
The diversity that may be found all around the world and in our very community has always fascinated me. I am aware that it is a widely held belief that being a minority is considered a disadvantage in various aspects and I would disagree with this. Diversity and culture is a two-way street- as a community, whether that be society as a whole or simply a freshman class, we have the potential to be able to learn from each other. I believe that my status as an underrepresented minority has shaped me into the person I am today. Despite moving to the United States at a young age and being a first-generation college student , I am grateful for the privilege to be able to further my education at the University of Utah.
Most people I know have college education ranging through many generations of their family, but unfortunately my family doesn't have that luxury. I come from immigrant parents who made me realize that success is earned, not given and in order to achieve success one must aspire to work hars . Since moving to the United States eighteen years ago, my parents have taught me necessities needed to succeed in America. From living with the satisfaction that I will receive a college education to providing me with the tools neccesecary in life my parents have always been there for me. In my early childhood, my parents taught me how important a strong work ethic was and made me understand the importance of education and the prospect it provides.
I can enrich the diversity of Milligan 's campus community because I am already so diverse from the norm at Milligan College. To start off, I as a person am a complete combo of uniqueness and spunk. I can bring something different to Milligan because of my peculiar way of thinking and decision making. I set myself apart from those my age because I matured at a young age due to certain situations that I had to face as a child that most people never have to face in their entire lives. However, I could not be more thankful; God had a plan for me and because of the adversities that I experienced, I am a more determined and goal oriented individual.
Admission into the University of Florida is a catalyst to achievements and progression of ideas and knowledge and dreams and aspirations. Although it is just a degree that defines what you receive from a college education, it is the individuals you meet and connect with that create the platform of excellence that provides opportunities that contribute to a flourishing adulthood. I hope to solidify connections and experiences that permeate not only in my mind, but in those collages as well. To achieve this goal and reach out to the student community of Gainesville I plan to implement and refine a Senior Freshmen mentoring program, create the largest fundraising event during the Halloween season to help support families of severely mentally disabled
From a very young age, I was keenly interested in computers. The world of the computer always caught my attention, and I wanted to seek more knowledge in this particular field. Computers always seem like a mystery to me, I wanted to know how they work and how exactly they perform tasks in few seconds which humans could take more time to complete. This interest never left me, only growing more profound and passionate about every new discovery I made. From communicating with an artificial intelligence to seeing the wonders of the Internet for the first time, computers have left me fascinated with just how much power yet mystery they hold.
Medicine overall is a broad, diverse subject which continuously evolves altering the way we see the world. However the complexity in which medicine now operates is captivating and its ever-changing nature gives me the desire to be a part of it. My desire originally started from visits to the hospital with a terminally ill Grandfather at the age of 10, seeing the miraculous turn round from him being at death's door to him now living past what was expected. Seeing it first hand, changed my outlook on life and repeatedly gives me the inspiration to become someone who has the knowledge and power to be positive influence to all those around me. I have experience of the less glamorous side of medicine through seeing the fragility and cruelty of what disease can do to a person.
Please strongly consider my request to switch my current schedule, as my interests have dramatically changed, and I now have a newfound exuberance for school. In the past, I used to coast through school and found that suited me well. I had little motivation to increase my boundaries and challenge myself to grow as a person. After spending time with some highly influential individuals, my ideas about school have changed. I now view school as a way to become greater, as opposed to my prior view as simply a time that must be spent.
College is a place of opportunity. It is a place where students create their futures. Students can pursue the careers of their dreams and live the college life at the same time. Before I purse my career I need to first of all find one. I am undecided.
A potential career I have always been interested in would have to be teaching. I enjoy working with people and especially teaching people new things. I have always admired some teachers, but some on the other hand, they just never sparked my interests. Many people dreamed of being teachers when they are younger, but how many actually stick with their young dreams? I was that kid, the one who lost interest, but I found my interest once again.
After giving much thought on what I wanted to do in the future, I found University of California at Los Angeles to be an excellent stepping stone for my aspiration as a computer scientist. I’ve come to a decision to apply to UCLA because I wanted to follow in my brother’s footsteps as a computer scientist, and what better way to start, by applying to the same college that my brother attended and graduated. With the encouragement from my brother supporting me behind my back, I strongly believe that UCLA will widen my horizon, improve me as a person, and hope to have a glimpse of what my brother had experienced when he took his first step into the campus. My strongest traits to push through my aspirations is my confidence, passion, and hardwork.
Tucked into the corner bike in the back row, I nervously set up my bike and clipped in for my first spin class. The lights were down and the music was blasting but within the first minute I was lost and was sure I looked like an idiot. But the electrifying vibe of studio was addictive, it was an immediate feeling of knowing I belonged here and eventually the philosophy behind spinning changed my entire life. During my first few months taking spin classes, there were so many times in a that I wanted to stop.
In a speech at Stanford University, a renowned entrepreneur once expressed the importance of having passion. According to him, the only way to truly attain success is to love what you do and be willing to immerse yourself in learning. What motivates me are my passions and talents. The activities I enjoy most are theater and design. I had singing ability that was recognized at an early age and it was my vocal talent that ignited my passion for performance.
The word goals has a variety of meanings to me. My lifetime goals are to be a successful scientist, share my passion for music with others, and to achieve success in anything that I do. I have taken many steps to set myself up for success down the road. I’ve taken the typical advanced courses as any other success-driven student.
