My Reflections in This Course
When I started this course, I wanted to learn and improve many things about English. At the start of the semester, I had set few goals for myself, and I almost accomplished them. One of them was improving the correct use of mechanics in writing. The use of grammar, punctuation, spelling and capitalization has definitely improved in my writing. My second goal was to know how to write a research paper. I had never written a research paper before this, and this was the first time I wrote a research paper. The third was to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself in the area of oral presentations. According to me, I was able to successfully achieve all the three goals.
I pretty much met all my expectations in taking this course except one. My choice of words isn’t appropriate. However I tried to improve that throughout my course by reading many novels by the same author. It helped me to develop a deeper understanding to novels. Also, my use of grammar has improved a lot. I always had problems regarding grammar errors, in my high school, but by the end of this course I am confident about my usage of grammar. The articles, my professor gave were one of the reason my critical analysis skills are sharpened. Doing the reader responses and having an example to go by helped when trying to brainstorm. They helped me to shed bad habits and write better papers. As a speaker I am more confident about my speech than I used to be. The oral presentation at the end of the semester was really beneficial. I was worried about my accent, and conscious about how would professor Rallo and other students would respond to this. But they were cooperative, and my hard work was
