Kelly Bryant: Teaching Philosophy

In my view, an effective teacher must be:
• well-organized: I found that students are more likely to accept what they are learning when it is logically presented in an orderly, precise, and clear manner.
• accessible to students: by relating to students and being accessible, one creates an encouraging learning atmosphere that kindles their minds' fire.
• knowledgeable in current trends in research and practice: it is critical for a teacher to keep up with changes in current research and practice.
I want to be a teacher that inspires her students to learn, not just the particular subject that I am teaching, but I would love for my students to develop a passion for learning in general while they are in my classroom. I want to create an environment where it is ok to be uncertain …show more content…

I think that students can learn a lot from one another and that their interactions in the classroom play a big role in the learning process. I also want my students to feel comfortable interacting with me and approaching me with questions. I believe good motivation is a necessary condition for students to succeed in learning the material taught in their courses, and it also proves to be crucial later on in their professional careers. In order to help students get motivated, I begin my lectures with concrete examples that are closely related to the concepts we are going to discuss in the class. In my experience, real world examples are particularly effective in keeping students engaged with the lecture and in making them aware of the usefulness of the materials they are going to learn.

In addition to the examples, I also provide students with recent newspaper articles dealing with economic issues related to what we discuss in the class. This helps not only to improve their understanding, but also to induce active class
