Though I taught students in the past, my real passion for teaching arose when I was offered an opportunity to mentor doctorate of audiology (AuD) fellows for clinical training and research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. My teaching style is unique as it is structured, goal-oriented, and adaptive. The fundamentals of my teaching method are mutual dignity and respect, motivation, determination, empathy, leadership and personality development. constructive criticism, and reinforcement. I structure my teaching goals after keen observation of each students strengths, weaknesses, and learning patterns. I want to help students build their fundamental foundation for future learning throughout their career. I want to get the best out of each student so they can become independent and formulate their critical thinking skills. I encourage each student to be an active learner and reader. I strongly believe traditional classroom teaching alone is not enough to achieve excellence. While formal instruction guides the learning process, clinical labs provide practical insight on the subject. When a student fails to perform a difficult task, I provide them an easier task to help prepare them for the original task. I introduce more advanced topics to challenge their skills and knowledge. It is important for students to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing concerns with the teacher. If any student does not perform well, I will first evaluate my teaching methods for possible modification if necessary.
