While being in a position of leadership it is important to understand that not any two individuals are exactly the same. We do not all think, perceive, analyze or problem solve all the same way. There are many categories of personalities and there is even a self assessment you can take to see which personality traits you hold. This self-report questionnaire is also known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator “MBTI” and it is modeled around four different personality traits. By the end of the assessment you will have a four letter accroynm summarizing how you perceive things in the world and how you make decisions. For example, one may enjoy internal stimuli over going to a loud party with loud people, these people would be considered to have introverted personalities. Internal stimuli would most likely be a small group setting or even alone time with soft music, a more personal setting. Leading these to very different people would differ depending on who you are talking to. Extraverts live for larger, louder groups and occasions and are known to get lonely with this aspect of life. I would lead my more extraverted groups of people into groups for brainstorming activities. And leave less oriented tasks for my introverts who prefer to work alone, while not being alone. Its also very important to distinguish a judger from a perceiver when in a leadership positon. Its important to know those who take the most direct route to a task and those who do many thing s at once but does ultimately come to a windy conclusion. An individual with more of a judgment like personality enjoys planning ahead and in considered to be more scheduled and punctual. On the other extreme is a perceiver, those who are open to new data at any time while still trying to accomplish the task at hand would be the best example for this characteristic. A perceiver individual would not be considered structure and is really all over the place when accomplishing a checklist, starting new tasks before the others are finished.
