“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing your self. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others”. These words, once uttered by retired business executive, Jack Welch, are ambassadors to what I believe constitutes great leaders. Leadership is not only a quality one attains, but I believe it is a way to life. Tonight, I am standing here in your presence, to not boast about my accomplishments as a leader, but to hopefully motivate and inspire each and every single individual in this room, as I believe everyone here has the potential to be a great leader. Now, to return to Mr. Welch’s words, “before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself”. This is a statement I find to be very true. For one to be a leader, it is crucial for one to be confident with themselves, before they can help boost other’s confidence. Ironically, for an aspiring leader, there was a time in my life when I was lacking self confidence. Through the leadership class here at Central, and the help of Mr.

It’s time to help other’s grow as leaders and in order to do that, there are a few rules that apply that I set forth to you all. One, being a leader does not mean you have to be authoritarian- although Hitler was a successful dictator, he was not the greatest leader. Two, being a leader means being a good listener and being a friend for all members of society- be there for people, listen to them, and take in their input. Three, it’s Ok for a leader to be wrong and vulnerable- take risks and don’t worry about the consequences, whatever happens will happen, you can’t do anything about it. Four, leaders are positive role models who should be approachable- open up and always see the glass half full. And five, a leader does not have to be a leader in every situation- let other’s try it out once in a while, you can always learn from your
