Purpose of the Leadership Journal 1: Identify my mission, strengths, and vision in leadership practice. This journal is compiled using the class textbook and article readings, class assessments, class workshops and discussion, as well as class notes.

Leadership is an important practice for undertaking challenges, accomplishing tasks, and achieving goals in life. Leaders help to influence attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors of others. They also provide directions to people helping them visualize what they are capable of achieving. Thus, leaders inspire and encourage people towards their aspirations. Maximizing my adaptive leadership potential in the service of my mission would require me to unlearn old knowledge and habits. In leadership practice, one has to unlearn in order to integrate new leadership learning. I learned that unlearning has been seen as an important step in moving towards an evidence-based practice. Organizations need to take what individuals already know and form new patterns around that. Unlearning is a difficult process that requires reorganization of the old system, which involves changing an ecological system of feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. An individual might need to unlearn his or her behavior patterns. In my personal best leadership experience, I had to unlearn my old behaviors, thoughts, and feelings in order to learn the new information and habits associated with changing my …show more content…

The concept regarding “Change is Pain” helped me understand the reason that some public health policies and healthcare organizations are sometimes stubborn and shy away from change or take a long time to make a change happen. This has to do with basal ganglia. When a daily routine gets disrupted or disturbed, people feel the job or work has become more difficult. For example, if you are used to driving on the right side of the road, but now you have to drive on the left side, it can feel difficult at first because of the change, but through repetition and consistency, you can make it a habit. This is why people can have resistance to changing behavior, habit, or attitude. The application of adaptive leadership can help reduce resistance to change. Learning about how the habit is formed and why it’s a problem and explaining that is an adaptive change. Instead of practicing to go after a defined goal, it would be better to address the problem first and focus on learning from it. Sometimes implementing a habit change without knowing its root cause can make the habit change
