My Plan to Contribute to the Next Generation of Leaders As a follower that is now a leader, my experience level at developing future leaders is low. However, I will not use that as an excuse not to help those who are coming up behind me. I plan to use some of the ideas presented in John Maxwell’s book “Developing the Leaders Around You, How to Help Others Reach Their Full Potential” as a guide to help me help others.
To coach and mentor others I will need to learn multiple skills. In my journey to expand my knowledge, I will influence others. I will strive to produce the next generation of leaders and ensure that they will continue to pass along what they learn. This evolution of leadership should always be growing and improving. A positive attitude will allow for more energy and a brighter outlook. It will help with team cohesion and will infect those around me. By being positive it will give those leaders near me an environment where they are encouraged to grow and learn. I believe in praising people for doing well and to lift them up when they are down. People will make mistakes. We are all human. The ability to give them encouragement and a positive perspective will help them to maintain confidence in what they are doing. This action will help the individual to develop a belief in themselves. This long process will allow them to persevere, and in this new environment that has been created I will empower them to assume that leadership role.
I will show them the steps that I have taken to get to where I am and direct them “step by step” to reach their goals. I might not have the same leadership style that they do or one that they even want, but I hope to be able to help others in their self-development. As I grow and become a more effective and efficient leader I will need to learn how to develop others based on their
