Do you know any introverted, awkward, or shy people? In the movie Napoleon Dynamite, Napoleon is a high school student with poor social skills. He is frequently teased and ridiculed since he is seen as a weird person. Because he is so shy, he can't engage with his classmates without drawing ridicule from them. Everything changes as a result of his new friendships with Pedro and Deb, two new friends. These two friends cause him to get over his nervousness and improve his social skills. This all changes throughout the movie when Napoleon learns and fixes his mistakes and in turn, this improves his abysmal social skills. Throughout the movie, all of these bad characteristics change when Napoleon demonstrates his dynamic nature by overcoming these difficulties throughout the narrative. Napoleon's loneliness is revealed early in the narrative when Summer Wheatly declined his invitation to play tetherball. Napoleon is then shown to be alone on the lone tetherball court, indicating to us that no one desires to spend time with him. Napoleon overcomes this stark loneliness because in the final moments of the movie, Deb said “Yes” to Napoleon when he asked “Wanna play me” in a tetherball. This illustrates how Napoleon is not lonely anymore because Deb agrees to play with Napoleon in tetherball. Pedro realizes that he did not prepare for the skit part because he wasn’t aware of it, so Napoleon takes initiative and decides to disco dance in front of the whole school. This is a very altruistic act by Napoleon. Because disco dancing in front of the whole is very embarrassing and Napoleon is very shy, so doing this for his friend is a really altruistic act by Napoleon. By doing this, Napoleon achieves a lot of attention to Pedro, because of his eccentric and funny dancing. He also gets a standing ovation from the full school, showing us that he overcame his unpopularity and people actually notice and appreciate him. This is a huge change from the beginning of the movie because instead of cowering and being selfish, he takes initiative when he realizes that Pedro is in deep need of help and decides to help his best friend Pedro, with something which deeply matters to him. These two examples demonstrate to the viewers that Napoleon changes throughout the story by overcoming his loneliness and selfishness.
