“Anything can happen if you let it.” This quote from Mary Poppins is one that perfectly sums up how I feel about my life. When I was young, I was diagnosed as a severe asthmatic. I was constantly on new medications and seeing different doctors. I remember waking up to the sound of my nebulizer helping me breathe. The doctors had constantly told me that I would never be able to do things that would require me to do physically taxing activities. I was told that I would never be able to sing, dance, or play any kind of sport ever. I was distraught at this fact because at that time I was very passionate about playing soccer and participating in my elementary school’s choir. It wasn’t until I was in second grade that my family had found a different approach to help make my asthma more bearable. My teacher that year had recommended to my mother a local chiropractor, who had helped her with her health problems. As stated earlier, anything can happen if you let it. By going to see this chiropractor, my miracles happened. For the first time in three years, I grew an inch. I stopped taking the medication that was hindering my health and began a holistic healing process. My asthma attacks grew less frequent, almost extinct, and for the first time in my life I was able to survive an entire soccer game without having to take long breaks for air or using an inhaler. Though these things did not happen immediately, my life had finally taken a positive turn. As I look back on the way I used to have to live my life, I think about how different I am now. Back then I was a small girl who had to have an inhaler with her 24/7 and was forced to sit-out on certain P.E. games, and now I am still a small girl, but one that is applying to be a musical theatre
