Since entering high school, I have grown as a leader, as a team-player, as a student. Academically, I have expanded my abilities past simply completing the work; I began to dive deeper into understanding and challenge myself to push all the way through to the end. In the community, I found out how I can best utilize my strengths to help others and create a better atmosphere for the people around me. In order to contribute to the National Honor Society, I will spread my dedication to understanding so that those around me will be leaders in a unified environment. The classes in high school have broken my boundaries, expanded my thought processes, and encouraged dedication and commitment. When learning something new, I always ask myself, why is this true? In recent summers, I taught Sunday School classes for preschoolers, and I helped kids in English as a Second Language classes. These two positions have prepared me to act as a leader in the school and in the community. After teaching Sunday School, I learned to how to expand the perspective of others, not just my own. The kids and I worked to make sense of Bible stories so that they could apply the stories to their lives. Honestly, the preschool kids taught me some values that they think are important, and many of them have changed how I think about others. As an ESL helper, I began to teach the kids to understand and care for the people around them. They quickly learned to share their toys and accept the other kids into their games. Now, most of the kids are really good friends even though they all come from different backgrounds. In the National Honor Society, I will use these same principles to benefit the students at Catonsville.
