On the tenth of July in the year eighteen fifty six Nikola Tesla was born in what would now be Smiljan, Croatia. Tesla was one of five children in his family. As a young child Tesla was exposed to electrical invention by his mother. His mother, in her spare time, invented small household appliances and really sparked Tesla’s interest. Tesla’s father, Milutin Tesla, was a Serbian orthodox priest and a writer. His father really encouraged Tesla to join the priesthood but, Tesla’s interest was stuck on the inventions. Tesla went to a couple a different places, like the University of Prague, to study during his young life. After all this, Tesla moved to Budapest where he worked for the Central Telephone Company. All he had was clothes on his back and a letter. The letter, was a letter of introduction to the famous inventor and businessman, Thomas Edison. Edison was known for discovering direct current and his electrical works were being used all over the country. Edison decided to hire Tesla and the two worked hard together. He wanted to create a wireless global communication system, that would be transferred through a large electrical tower, for sharing information and providing free electricity for the world. With major funding and endorsement from “J.P. Morgan” Tesla began his project in nineteen hundred and one. He began his project with great zeal. Designing and building a lab with a power plant on it and a massive transmission tower on a site in Long Island, New York, that became known as Wardenclyffe. Beyond that, when doubts came up among his investors about the credibility of Tesla’s system and with the success that his rival Guglielmo Marconi (who was backed by Andrew Carnegie and Thomas Edison) was having, Tesla had no choice but to shut the project
