This paper examines the Non-Commissioned Officer development strategy implemented by the United States Army. By expanding on the previous strategy, future Non-Commissioned Officer’s gain a training and education system that maintains a high level of academic excellence. The Non-Commissioned Officer 2020 Strategy publication provided an in-depth view of the benefits of capturing an Non-Commissioned Officer’s overall performance and skills. Implementation of a standardized, tracked, and accredited school system guarantees all Soldiers success whether active or civilian. The third major objective promises to deliver an efficient and standardized credentialing system. The development of an NCO diminishes greatly if it lacked accreditation. An army school that utilizes the designated criteria set by newly redesigned OASS guarantees the NCO’s success in the army and beyond. An NCO that aspires to better themselves, well spoken, and projects confidence inspires their Soldiers to do the same. This type of environment betters the army and grants a competitive advantage over adversaries. The fourth and final major objective involves tracking all Soldier’s education, training, and experience throughout their military career. A system of tracking development enables validation of an NCOs progress. With an emphasis on success, the NCO’s development strategy requires a formal method of maintaining records. This system guarantees a permanent record of an NCO’s accomplishments, and further documents all achievements. No matter whether professional, civilian, or documented experience, streamlining an NCO’s history contributes to a successful career track.
Conclusion
Proper NCO development requires a vision and strategy to implement. With such a large and complex population of people, the army needs exceptional leadership. Throughout time, NCO development changed, but defeating any adversary of the United States remained. The army set out to develop a bold, adaptive, and comprehensive strategy. Implementation of the NCO 2020 Strategy guarantees military superiority throughout the world for decades to come.
