USC Personal Statement The area of practice that I am interested in is critical care, but more specifically the emergency department. My interest lies in the emergency department because of the fast-paced environment, variety of patients and illnesses, teamwork, and communication among the interprofessional care team. SMU provides opportunities for students to participate in research. I am thrilled at the prospect of conducting research with the mentorship of a faculty professor or getting involved in research within the engaged learning initiative. Ongoing research by SMU professors of biology relating to cancer and gene expression is interesting, and particularly exciting to me because I want to pursue a career in medicine. In addition, SMU is located in the Dallas where I live.
As a prospective member of the Masters of Arts in History program at Liberty University I hope to accomplish several things. I am currently serving as a high school history teacher and this program will benefit both my students and myself alike in the foreseeable future. This includes reaching the goals of earning my master’s degree which will result in a higher level of professional knowledge in my content area, while increasing my income simultaneously. This is not the only positive factor, Liberty’s program will also contribute directly to growth in regards to my relationship with Jesus Christ.
I see myself being an engaged member of the WCU and Brinson Honors College community by being involved in community service opportunities, becoming a member of leadership organizations, and taking advantage of opportunities to study and serve in a different country or to participate in undergraduate studies. I plan to be engaged in the WCU community by being involved in all that I can be involved in. Specifically, I hope to become involved in at least one of the faith-based groups on campus, such as the Baptist Student Fellowship at WCU or the Campus Crusade for Christ. Becoming involved in faith-based organizations is important to me and will allow me to love God and love people better by learning more about God and participating in service projects that will share his love and truth. Additionally, I want to join a local Church family, where I hope to serve in various aspects of the Church, especially those that involve children, something that I am passionate about.
I am an active member in a wide variety of activities. I am very involved in 4-H and FFA. Through these clubs, I have participated in many community service projects. I work hard in the classroom and I’m very goal driven. I have a 3.14 GPA, and I strive to do better each and every day.
I am a student in Lopez Early College High School and I am in the varsity football team. Last year in the 2014-2015 football season we the team went 0-10. That means that we went 0 wins and 10 losses. Last year we were a bunch of sophomores in the varsity team and as a team in general we were not experienced in playing in a varsity game, since we really went from the freshman football team straight to the varsity football team. I remember that when we played Los Fresno my sophomore we lost to them extremely bad, I remember the score being 72-0.
As a person who strives for perfection in all walks of life, academically and as a person, I believe that I would be a great contributor to the already excellent chapter of National Honor Society here at Lake Travis High School. I have always been a high achiever academically, setting high expectations for myself and even take outside of school classes on Mandarin every week. One of the most appealing things about University of Oregon is the active inclusion and constant work towards creating a more expansive community. I hope to study Philosophy with a minor in ethnic studies or women and gender studies. These majors I feel will help me pursue my personal goal of a diverse education. As a woman from a conservative part of the east bay with a unique connection to the LGBTQ+ community, I feel that I have a lot to offer to the diverse discourse that The University of Oregon offers. Additionally being a person of privilege I see that I have a responsibility to take a set back and listen to those who have less fortunate geopolitical locations.
I have always retained a keen passion in learning about medicine and dreamed about becoming a pediatrician. As I learned more about NYU, I fell more in love with the university, aspiring to one day step into the halls of the school and make my mark. I believe it was the perfect place for me to start my pre-medical studies into one day becoming a doctor. When I first ventured in and around NYU in New York City, my eyes sparkled at the marvel of the campus. It is not one's typical campus.
As a child, I was never aware of my family’s financial struggles. My parents divorced when I was 12 and money became the central issue in my life. I found myself worrying about mortgages, health bills, and grocery money at a very young age. As I continued to grow, I vowed to myself that I would not struggle financially the way my parents had to. I want to escape the socioeconomic status I was born into, which is why I am pursuing a post-secondary education.

The most meaningful interest that I would like to share is my involvement with the local football program. In my town, football is the one sport season where you can see nearly every citizen in the stands, cheering on our team. I see how important the sport is to my community, so for the last two years I have volunteered as a manager for the team, where I spend up to four hours every week day on the sidelines or in the weight room to ensure that the players and coaches are prepared for game day and practices. Being a manager isn’t that easy, as I have a heavy workload from school already, but we are expected to provide water, refill water bottles, wash towels, jerseys, and pants, prepare game uniforms every Wednesday, provide basic first aid, load gear onto the busses and run errands when asked by the coaches.
