Jacob, I completely agree in that the public is often very uneducated when it comes to what a nurse practitioner can do since their job varies from state to state. Many patients do not even realize that they are seeing a nurse practitioner when they go to the doctor. I do think that part of the problem is because their practice does vary so greatly from state to state, it is difficult for some to understand their role here in Michigan, when in California for example, they are able to practice much differently. Certain studies have shown that nurse practitioners are capable of managing approximately eighty to ninety percent of care that is generally provided by a physician (Vleet & Paradise, 2015).
