I am very interested in the position with the Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP). Although I have focused on foreclosure-related issues for the last four years, I have a BA in Psychology, I have worked in nursing homes and mental health facilities, I was a certified teacher in Behavioral Science, and interned at a children’s psychiatric facility. I believe those experiences, as well as my dedication to providing legal services to low-income people, provide a good foundation for working with patients, families, and medical providers with the MLP.

The Civil Legal Needs Update confirmed “significant disproportionalities in the experiences of members of distinct sub-demographic groups exist. Specifically, African-Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics, persons with disabilities, victims of domestic violence, youth and families that include service members or veterans experience substantially greater numbers of problems and different types of problems than the general low-income population.” I believe the community-based model of MLP alleviates some of the barriers to accessing legal services of the demographic groups mentioned in the Civil Legal Needs …show more content…

While on CLEAR*Sr, I attended the King County Elder Abuse Council, which was comprised of law enforcement, medical providers, social workers and attorneys. In law school, while interning at a Guardianship Support Center, I attended Elder Financial Abuse roundtables with social service providers, financial institutions and lawyers. I also have experience collaborating with Equal Justice Partners. I served on the planning committee for the Alliance Advocate training in Ellensburg. I have worked closely with the Seattle-King County Asset Building Collaborative, and providers in Whatcom and Skagit counties. I led a yearlong mission implementation work group involving CLEAR and field office relations. Collectively, we generated recommendations and findings. I also served on the Personnel and Diversity committees at Northwest Justice Project. With the Contract Attorney Program, I recruited pro bono attorneys and provided oversight on cases. I believe the key to teamwork is to ensure all team members feel included and engaged in the work.
