When I was eight years old, my family and I visited Washington D.C. At the time, I had very little interest in the operations of the U.S. government, let alone the fact that my Great Grandfather, Roy D. Chapin, served as the Secretary of Commerce under President Hoover’s administration and that my Grandfather, Daniel Chapin, was a lobbyist for Ducks Unlimited. Strangely enough, almost ten years later, I discovered that I share the same passion and interest in political involvement which my relatives once did. In previous years, TPUSA did not hold much of a presence on TCU’s campus. Activities and events were mentioned at the meetings held once a semester but were never executed. Since becoming President, I have hit the ground running in planning positive activism events and bringing a speaker to campus. When I set my mind to completing something, I take charge and tackle whatever it may be head on. Something that has also helped me within my clubs is my ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of those I work with and delegate responsibilities accordingly. For instance, I quickly picked up on where each member of my executive board in TPUSA is most skillful and assigned them corresponding duties. Because they excel in their delegated areas, I try to assign them small tasks that will challenge them to grow into a more well rounded leader. This tends to work out extremely well because I can check in on their progress, help along the way, and use my encouraging personality to motivate them to push themselves. I want to contribute a combination of my strengths to an organization because I have seen them positively change the culture of my own club and know how difficult it can be implementing ideas and effectively challenging your own
