Mission Statement

The Oakes Athletic Department will aim to develop student-athletes to be successful when they leave our athletic programs. In our pursuit of victory, our coaches will demand and value respect, instill growth mindsets, all while fostering genuine relationships.

Philosophy Statement

The Oakes Athletic Department exists to give all students an opportunity to compete in a variety of sports, and all efforts will be made to allow every student to participate. The athletic department will exist to supplement the educational environment, and will build a student’s soft-skills vital in today’s evolving world.

The new mission and philosophy would have to be communicated with all coaches first, at a beginning of the year coaches meeting. Without coach buy-in, the statements will be nothing more than lip-service. All coaches would be expected to know the mission statement.

Additionally, we would have the statements as the first two slides of all pre-season player and parent meetings, as a way to show both that we are committed to our statements, and that all programs are united with them.

I would also meet with our Teammaker organization (our booster club), and ensure they have a solid grasp on what we are trying to accomplish with our mission and philosophy statements. We would coordinate such that the end of year awards banquet put on by the Teammakers recognized both athletes and community members who exemplified what our athletic department values.

As the values were selected by all stakeholders in our school (teachers, custodians, administration, lunch staff, coaches, and board members) I felt it was important to include all three in the mission statement, and not add an extra value.
