Where humans originated from has always been a controversial topic, within the science community and religious organizations. While the science community argues that humans came about through evolution, religions such as Christianity believe that an answer to such a complex question can be found in the Bible. The Bible, which consists of 66 books; 39 from the old testament and 27 from the new testament holds the answer to this question specifically the book of Genesis chapters 1 and 2. Although Genesis addresses human origins, its varying interpretations can contribute to young earth creationism, old earth creationism, and theistic evolution. Although all three theories interpret Genesis differently all agree that human origins originated from …show more content…
Some may argue that earth is only 6,000 to 10,00 years old (young earth creationism) other argue that earth really 4.6 to 13.7 billion years old (Old earth creationism) and lastly other argue God used to evolution when it came to creation (Theistic theory). Young earth theory takes Genesis literal, meaning that this theory believes creations happened in six days and God rested on the seventh. Adam and Eve are also looked as historical figures. When it comes to argument from old earth creationism its interpretation of Genesis 1-2 allows for lose interpretation. Its states that the grammar presented in the bible allow for a blurred line between literal and allegorical interpretation. One argument presented is that the 6-day period in creation actually refers to 6 distinct periods of time. The use of the word day is used just to stand for time itself but does not clarify if it was 6 hours, 6 weeks, 6 days, or 6 decades. Augustine of Hippo agreed with the old earth creationism “He strongly defended the doctrine of creatio ex nihilo, but distinguished two moments of creation: the production of matter and spirits out of nothing, and the organization of the material universe. h evolution) it can be agreed upon that all theories begin with God.” (Berkholf, 2018) Although the concept of evolution has been a controversial topic within in Christianity there is nothing in the …show more content…
The openness of Old Earth creationism is a blurred as it interpretation of Genesis 1-2. A scientific discovery that can support their theory on the age of earth is radiometric dating commonly known as Carbon dating. This process involves estimating the age of fossils to prove that the earth is in fact billions of years old. Such evidence closely relates to the lose interpretation of the word “day” in Genesis 1. Out of three theories theistic theories is the one more opened to evidence provided by scientific reasoning. As mentioned above theistic theory argues that creation came about through evolution through the influence of God. One of the most compelling pieces of evidence to support this theory is found in the journal of Perspectives on Science & Christian faith. Which states “God placed DNA sequences that move within and/or between chromosomes, and that these mobile DNA sequences were meant to enable adaptation to environmental changes or to new environments into which organisms spread, "to genetically prepare each creature from the start of creation for future challenges" (Senter, P. J., & Mackey, J. J., 2017). God created and placed perfectly designed DNA sequences in the body to help for the adaptation of constantly changing
