Oprah Winfrey once said, “The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.” Oprah Winfrey had a difficult life when she was a child but then she inspired herself to help other children who are getting abused and have been through what Oprah has been through. Oprah wants everybody to have an education in their lives so she has worked to make that happen through her charities. Due to overcoming obstacles and her many achievements, Oprah Winfrey exhibits the values of a hero. Oprah Winfrey is my hero because she overcame great obstacles in her life. “After a troubled adolescence in a small farming community, where she was sexually abused by a number of male relatives and friends of her mother, Vernita, she moved to Nashville to live with her father, Vernon, a barber and businessman” (“Oprah Winfrey”). “Winfrey is a dedicated activist for children's rights; in 1994, President Clinton signed a bill into law that Winfrey had proposed to Congress, creating a nationwide database of convicted child abusers. She founded the Family for Better Lives foundation and also contributes to her alma mater, Tennessee State University.” Due to her abuse as a child, Oprah wanted to be sure this did not happen to other children. This is why she went to Congress to convince them to create a bill so there would be a database nationwide that identified convicted child abusers. In addition to helping children that were abused she helped raise money for other causes. “Oprah's Angel Network has raised more than $51,000,000 for charitable programs, including girls' education in South Africa and relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina” (“Oprah Winfrey”). Oprah has worked hard at raising money for several programs that are close to her heart. As shown above, Oprah Winfrey is a true hero because of her achievements that she has
