This fifth grade lesson plan on planets will help as an introduction to an entire unit on the modules of the solar system. It will give my students an outline of the solar system, by describing the structure of how the sun is placed in the center, and the orbit of the planets around the sun; it will also show my students the planets relative sizes. I will then explain that due to new discoveries that Pluto is no longer considered a planet. This change was based on the size of Pluto it was even smaller than our moon. Also, due to its very far location at the edge of the solar system, scientists have decided to change Pluto’s classification, to a dwarf planet. Even though, my lesson is based on the solar system, I will try to incorporate ways that my students can understand their origin on earth. …show more content…

Suitable accommodations are determined on the type of student: whether it is intellectual, physical, and or learning and sensory. However, even though, I may have two students with the same diversity they can differ tremendously in the type of accommodations needed to learn the lesson.
My accommodations for students that are gifted will be to encourage them to explore concepts on a more complex level; also, I will let them conduct independent studies and or investigations. My gifted students will have the opportunity to brainstorm types of projects they would like to do, too extend what they have learned in class. However, I will try to avoid drills and practice activities because, this only will disinterest the student. I feel that if they already know the information my goal is to broaden my student’s perception on the class
