Damon fails to create a convincing logical argument to support his thesis statement. Falling guilty to the fallacy of oversimplifying, the author claims that dishonesty alone will be responsible for the demise of civilized society. Laying the blame on the education system as a whole for no longer teaching honesty, or for teachers actively encouraging dishonesty, does not recognize the academic institutions and individual educators that make honesty and academic integrity a core precept. The examples of academic maleficence are valid support for the argument, but do not support the generalization of “organized and systemic misconduct” within the education system. Secondly, Mr. Damon assumes that children learn their moral code exclusively from the education system; offering only a minor concession to parental influence.
Due to teacher shortages many intercity and rural school districts, have been forced to rethink and retool their teacher certification process. During the 1980s states began to look at alternative strategies for prospective teachers to receive their teacher certifications, while outside of the established norm of a university degree in teaching. Obtaining a license alternatively enables new teachers to enter the workforce mid-career and with a more diverse background then their university educated peers and helps to bring real world experience to the teaching environment. While almost all states require at least a bachelor's degree in a certifiable area and required core courses along with other requirements. It is this type of certification
The State Legislature, State Administrative Agencies, and State and Local Board of Education help set up and carry on laws to control education in public schools. Individually, they represent their peculiar power when it comes down to making crucial decisions. The State Legislature has plenary, or absolute, power to make laws governing education compared to others who provide guidance and/or are locally administered (Cambron-McCabe, 2014). Responsibilities delegated to the Local Board from the State Board are taken care of differently in each state. Local School Boards hold the obligation to represent the state laws in education, however individual board members don’t have the authority to make policies or perform official acts on behalf of
After analyzing the California State Board of Education Policy and the sample plan, I retained great information that will help me become a better educator. Children go through many problems throughout life and many of those problems occur in school. This policy on school safety gives students the opportunity to seek options on so that they have a positive safe learning environment. Some of the few factors that I believe make the policy so effective is the school suspension, expulsion, and mandatory expulsion guidelines and also the sexual harassment policies. There must be consequences when an individual does something they were not supposed to do.

Instilling ethical writing habits in students is one of the most daunting tasks facing teachers today. With mounting classroom sizes and increasing expectations from parents and administration, there is often little time or energy left to devote to teaching subjects such as plagiarism awareness, proper quotation and citation skills not to mention delving into even deeper nuances within the field. These deeper topics, such as different citation styles and understanding when using which style would be most appropriate, is often just out of the question. Although it can be tough, most educators and administrators reading this would agree that there is significant work to be done to improve the way ethics in writing is taught.
When it all comes to decision making, it is a process that leads to a resolution. A decision is an act of making a choice or judgement based off of the course of action or a questionable doubt. The decisions that educational leaders make and how they make them has a significant effect on working conditions for members of the organization. Members of the organization, especially teachers, often complain that decisions made my instructional leaders are usually made without them. Any decision that is made by an educational leader that addresses educational issues or concerns should involve teachers.
Ethics according to my understanding is that division of philosophy which concerns with the moral principles that guide us in terms of our behaviour and way of doing things. Ethics simply helps a person in distinguishing between the right and wrong, good and bad, just and unjust, acceptable and unacceptable. It incorporates the ethical standards or the code of ethics guiding a person into the right path by instilling discipline and other virtues in our life’s daily activities. As professional teachers we endowed with dignity and reputation with high code of conduct while practicing the noble teaching profession which also requires us to follow set of ethical and moral principles, standards and values. Ethics in education concerns with the study of ethical standards or basic principles related rooted in the education system.
