“Compass to 2020” is VBCPS’s current framework to strengthen our learning community and ensure that we are charting the course for every student, every day. The issue we face is how do we properly implement this framework? How do we guarantee that we are creating graduates that are knowledgeable and resilient learners that are able to communicate, collaborate, and problem solve beyond the classroom? Potential keys to success include: access to technology, effective instruction, and sufficient funding. Emerging learners need to be able to apply lessons learned in the classroom to everyday life, and a good portion of daily life now revolves around technology.
The program helped teachers to solve social problems of the high school students’ encounter while at home as well as at school. The article goes into detail about how to integrate standards into engaged learning. I also thought it was great that the article discussed how engagement increases the ability for the brain to remember. When children are actively engaged in their own learning activities and environment, they are taking in more information, analyzing it, exploring it, storing it and practicing that content in their own learning style. Within the presentation, I found connections where it states how “state academic standards for kindergarten are becoming increasingly widespread.”

Nathan Wallace and Yuki Sasao’s moving articles about their personal growth with this changing of mindsets enforced what had already been instilled in me growing up. That when the world that surrounds you says that it's not in your skill set to succeed and that you should stay in your comfort zone, you need to push through to earn bigger and greater accomplishments. The smart measure survey opened my eyes to the different areas of my academic self and showed me where I could improve my study habits. I feel academically ready to the school workload as I have been successful in school in the past and due to the fact that I don’t have many outside distractions to take me away from my school work. Help-seeking is not a strong individual asset, I have a hard time asking the authority for help when I don’t understand.
Yet moving forward we still have many individuals who are taking action in shaping the world of tomorrow. Our current generation of students has an all new set of issues to face and educators across the board need to develop strategies to best serve the current population. Access to information and connections to other people has never been easier through the use of technology yet this is also creating a gap in making real connections. The current landscape is riddled with roadblocks to promoting the use of education to help solve significant social problems and incorporating lessons in virtues while properly preparing for students to become upstanding citizens.

Vivian Stewart ‘s article, A World Class Education: Learning From International Models of Excellence, explain how today’s students live differently from students long ago (2012, p. 1) Its more than using computers and IPads, it’s about changing instruction to include multiple intelligences, differentiated instruction, and cooperative learning.

Individuals can achieve success while venturing down many different paths in life and (conversely) people can also fail in while following a single path to success. Cathy Davidson discusses the positives of the impact that technology has on the classroom in, her writing, “Project Classroom Makeover.” Davidson also discusses how society has been moving towards a standardized way of learning for the past few decades. The knowledge that the public needed to know throughout the past was not as intense as what they need to can comprehend now.
I have never been to an AA meeting before, and I had a completely different imagination of how a meeting takes place. I thought the meeting was held in a depressing state, dark, and everyone is sad/drunk. However, my experience was exactly the opposite of what I imagined. Even though this was the first AA meeting that I have attended, I feel like I have been attending AA all my life. The members are friendly, supportive, and not shy to express their proudness of being part of AA.
