From the time I was able to form a simple sentence, I was asked by family members and educators what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was somewhat offended given the fact that I thought that I was already grown compared to my younger siblings. Whenever I was asked, I never had a certain occupation in mind. I just knew I wanted to help others. Now being a senior in highschool, I feel the same way. I want to be able to serve others and I have thought of just the way to do it. I come from a family that has always put an extra emphasis on education. That being said, I’ve always had a very strong support group that motivated me into focusing on my education. I come from a family of immigrants that worked very hard for me to have the opportunities and education that I do. Which is why I’ve become so passionate about it. From the time I was in second grade, I started my own college fund. Little did I know that the little change around the house wouldn’t come close to covering my tuition but hey, it was the thought that counted. The good news about PSU is that it participates in the Western exchange program. The tuition is $11,847 compared to out of state being: $24,852 (pdx.edu). Considering the fact that Boise State’s tuition is only a couple thousand dollars less, I think this is an excellent- and responsible- choice. I picked Portland State University, not only because of academical or economical reasons but because, honestly, I want to be able to be on my own. I want to be able to take this time to make selfish, spontaneous decisions while I'm young. Not to mention, I was born in Portland so it’s always been my home away from home. But it will still allow me to get out of my comfort zone and that’s what growing up is all
