In the 1800’s, one of the worlds most renowned artists was born. Pablo Picasso, of Spanish origin, not only known for his abstract paintings was also a playwright, stage director, poet, and sculptor. Picasso became a revolutionary artist because of his world-renown 20th century art. He was exceptionally prolific throughout his lifetime, achieving universal renown. A man of many creative colors, Picasso had five major periods: The Blue period, The Rose period, the African Influenced period, the Analytic Cubism period, the Synthetic Cubism period. In this one, however, he was expressing himself feeling and seeing too much. The Woman in Black was pictured in a hat with a feather in it. The feather was large and elongated. The different tints expressed in the feather were a wide range of tans to blacks. This helped express depth. Her face was from gray to yellow with a confused and almost annoyed expression on her face. Her mouth is puckered up like she’s about to cry. Her eyebrows curved down and crunched up in the middle. Her nose was pyramid like, drawn in flat lines. The color and depth decreased as it moved over to the other side of the face, portraying a shadow. Perhaps this could be explained as an expression of doubt, causing her to think and doubt something. She is clearly in a house passing by one of the windows as a square block of blue is shown in the picture behind her left shoulder. There could be a fireplace behind her because of some of the reds and yellows that are briefly displayed in the image. The room is dark, suggesting that it is night time. All of these qualities were expressed in blocky, chunky images. It was not necessarily that the strokes were heavy and blunt, but that of the shapes that made up every object. Everything is dramatic; dramatic photos, long posts, and a lot of gossip. These thought blurbs help express one’s personal identity by creating a small glimpse of someone’s inner desires. Along with the world today, the image could be seen as a distortion of a woman. This also relates to today’s social media culture in a way that woman are viewed as; distorted. The culture from which the image was created was one that heavily relayed on social standings. The social standing of women was not always as great as men’s; which relates to most modern day anti-feminist things. These observations and facts help one see the identity of all that the painting is, for what it is and where it came from as well as the artist who conveyed
